Disable/Enable Page Setup & Properties menu option (Word 2000/XP/2003)

Hi

I had to disable Page Setup and Properties menu option in my template. Which I successfully did with the help of you guys (going back about 3 years ago). I & other users then had Windows NT or Windows 95/98 installed on the PCs. Now everyone has XP installed on their PCs. This is the command I used:

Sub EnableDisableMenuOptions()
CommandBars("File").FindControl(ID:=750).Enabled = Not (CommandBars("File").FindControl(ID:=750).Enabled)
CommandBars("File").FindControl(ID:=247).Enabled = Not (CommandBars("File").FindControl(ID:=247).Enabled)
End Sub

This works fine in WORD 97 still but doesn't in WORD 2000/XP/2003. It used to work fine before we had XP installed our PCs. Anybody got any ideas? The command to enable/disable menu item in WORD 2000/2003 is almost ignored - in fact I think it is ignored.

Thanks in advance

I always understood .Enabled commands were boolean, so I tried this:

CommandBars("File").FindControl(ID:=750).Enabled = False

and it worked perfectly in my Word XP?

Thanks for the response Beryl.

No joy here using your method on 2000 or 2003. Unfortunately, XP is at home .

Re: Disable/Enable Page Setup & Properties menu op

I've tried this on WIN2000/word 9.0 and it works fine:
CommandBars("File").FindControl(ID:=750).Visible = False
CommandBars("File").FindControl(ID:=247).Visible = False
The commands are not disabled but invisible which, I guess means the same.

Paul thanks for response.

Unfortunately, it doesn't work here. Perhaps it the set up of WORD 2000/2003 & XP here at work. But it also doesn't work at home .

Re: Disable/Enable Page Setup & Properties menu op

How strange,

I put the code in a module in normal.dot, ran it and the items were gone. Restarted word and they were still gone. I had to change the .visible to true and run it again to get the items back. Maybe if you put it to 'true' first and to 'false' later?

I can't imagine winXP overriding menu-items in applications.

Perhaps there's a problem with Normal.dot. Try the steps in Phil Rabichow's <!post=Systematic Approach to Behavioral Problems in Word (97/2000),197827>Systematic Approach to Behavioral Problems in Word (97/2000)<!/post>.

Thanks Hans. I will try the systematic approach but

FYI: The same code works fine on Word 97 on the same PC - but no good for Word 2000/2003

The code itself works fine in all versions of Word - several people, including me, have tried it. So it must be specific to the PCs and versions of Word you're working on.

Thanks everyone for your responses.Unfortunately, nothing works for me. It seems I have stumped everyone this time around

I will have go with the systematic approach and see if it changes anything.

Also, if I do get a fix then I will post on the forum.

Thanks once again.

Thanks.
