Yes. What problem do you have?

As Hans said, there should not be a problem, but remember merged cells become essentially "one cell" so only 1 hyperlink will be allowed...

I tried creating a hyperlink and was unable to do so as the option was greyed out.

I merged cells first and then started typing in text and encountered the greyed out selection.

    John

The Insert | Hyperlink menu item is disabled when you are editing a cell (for example by typing text). This is the same for merged and for unmerged cells. Finish typing text (or cancel it), then select Insert | Hyperlink.

    Hans,

I tried your suggestion and the end result is that the entire merged cell becomes the Hyperlink to the webpage. The entire sentence or sentences are underlined. I would just like the word to be underlined that the hyperlink is associated with.

    Regards,
    John

A hyperlink is a property of a cell, not of part of a cell. What you want is impossible.

As a workaround to it you can see <post:=368,736>post 368,736</post:> (and the followup questions and answers).

You can format the word you want to be a hyperlink to look like a hyperlink, then create an object that you place over the word. Clicking on the object can be setup to run a macro to open the link. This also allows the "simulation" of multiple hyperlinks in a cell.
