When viewing Excel in browser menu items dont work (6.0.2900.2180.xpsp_sp2

    Hi there,
I have written some asp (not asp.NET) that fills HTML cells with data. e.g. <td><%=(CSLists.Fields.Item("Full_Name").Value)% >

Re: When viewing Excel in browser menu items dont

Wow, I never thought of serving an HTML page as Excel...

I assume that the ActiveX control is displaying the content. There was a recent minor change to some ActiveX controls where you had to click to activate them. However, I assume you have done that (if necessary) and the menus still do not function.

Where is the file accessed from, for example, your computer versus intranet server versus web site? Is everyone accessing the same "zone" and are the security settings for ActiveX in that zone consistent?

    Hmmm... I suspect these aren't going to help, but I had to ask anyway. <img src=/S/smile.gif border=0 alt=smile width=15 height=15>

I thought this was the standard way to generate and show Excel in a browser! I think we took it from examples on the web.
I don't know about this ActiveX control that you mention. What does it do and what version should we have?
The developers are testing the code on local machines as well as a shared server version. Wheather they get the menus or not seems indipendant of where the code is running.
Thanks for looking at my problem.

I guess it is a well known approach; Microsoft has instructions for it here: How To Display ASP Results Using Excel in IE with MIME Types.

The ActiveX controls are part of Office, the components that IE calls to handle this type of content. I suppose they are DLL files, but I don't know their names. It might be worth a visit to the Office installer to check whether there are any relevant-sounding components that are not installed on the problem computer.
