    Eliminating lines in a table (Front Page 2003)

    I would like to eliminate the lines that appear between each item in a table. How do I do this?

    Table cell borders? As in MS Word, FrontPage might show you table cell outlines in Normal view that are not going to be there in the finally published page. If they are there in the page, you can remove the borders in a couple of different ways. The <table> tag has a borders attribute that takes a value of 0, 1, 2 and so on for border width. 0 means no border. Or you can use styles. I can't recall how to do this through a dialog, but in the HTML editing pane, you can insert a style into the <head> section of the page like this:

    <code><style type="text/css">
    td {border-width:0}
    </style></code>

    If you mean blank lines, that's different. <img src=/S/grin.gif border=0 alt=grin width=15 height=15>

    Re: Eliminating lines in a table (Front Page 2003)

    I take it you mean that it is the blank lines you want to remove?
    Looking at the page on your link, I can't tell which are the lines you want removing. Do you mean, for example, the space between "The Honda Jet" and the line below it? Or the space under "Airworthy Aircraft"? Or both?

    (Is this specifically a FP issue? - it may do better in the general Web Design forum.)

    Sorry Leif, I posted the wrong URL. I have now corrected it to http://www.avgroup.com/company_info.htm

    Ah, OK <img src=/S/smile.gif border=0 alt=smile width=15 height=15>

    Are you talking about the horizontal space between the pictures top right? If not, I think you are going to need to be a little more explicit!

    Jim

    I have been watching this thread with interest. Is there anyway you can create a screenshot and add it to the next post/reply.

    It seems Jeff, Leif and I are slightly confused in what you want. Jeff has understood it as the table borders and Leif sees it as paragraph tags.

    Even better a piece of the troublesome code wouldn't go amiss (preferably in a notepad attachment).

    On the right side of this page there is a table with a list of names - Jim Haynes, Jay Haynes, Ed Ahrens, etc. The lines between these name are what I want to remove. Wait! I just discovered the lines appear in Firefox (my default browser, but not in IE) <img src=/S/confused3.gif border=0 alt=confused3 width=45 height=45>

    Jim

    This is a specific web design issue due to the styling using cascading style sheets.

    In your code you must remove class="navigation" from

    <td style="border-style: none; border-width: medium;" class="navigation">

    in all your code where it appears.

    I will suggest that this be moved to Web Design and Scripting if you require further assistance.

    Re: Eliminating lines in a table (Front Page 2003)

    the other thing you may wish to address is that if the viewer is not using the required screen resolution, or doesn't view with their browser window full-screen (like me!), the pics on the right get a bit munged. Perhaps a single composite of all three would be preferable?

    Re: Eliminating lines in a table (Front Page 2003)

    Hi Jim

    I went off and had a look at this tonight. In addition to what I said earlier today I have noticed that there is an issue that needs to be rectified. Firefox is IMHO a much better browser that IE and is less forgiving than IE.

    Look through the HTML code of the pase and look for :

    <table style="border-width: 0pt; border-collapse: collapse;" border="1" bordercolor="#111111" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" width="100%">

    Now change it to :
    <table cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" width="100%">

    Despite what I said in <post:=584,813>post 584,813</post:>, keep

    <td style="border-style: none; border-width: medium;" class="navigation">

    as it has useful formatting criteria in the CSS file. I hope this helps.

    Re: Eliminating lines in a table (Front Page 2003)

    Look in the <table> tag above your names. It seems that in Firefox, border="1" overrides the style instructions to have no border, while IE does it the other way around. Because the page doesn't invoke Standards-Compliant mode (i.e., using an appropriate DOCTYPE declaration) there's no saying whether this is correct or incorrect. It is just the way it is.

    If you want to author in Standards Compliant mode, be prepared for another 30-60 minutes of work because IE will render some tags quite differently. Add this at the top of your pgae (before <html>) and preview again:

    <code><!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01//EN"
    "http://www.w3.org/TR/html4/strict.dtd"></code>

    Thanks, I tried this and still have the boarders in Firefox. I then change the code back to the original

    Very weird, I changed the code as in <post:=584,959>post 584,959</post:> and I eliminated the lines when viewed in Firefox and in IE, I will copy the code in the attached website, zip it and attach it to my next post and ask you to test it your end.....
