    Disable History (IE6)

Is there a setting available to disable IE from creating and storing the history of browsed sites. Where and how can I diable or switch this option off?
    Tx
    Regards,

    Select Tools | Internet Options...
In the General tab, set "Days to keep history" to 0.
You may also want to tick the check box "Empty Temporary Internet Files folder when browser is closed" in the Advanced tab.

I don't think you can stop it creating a trail, as it must use it's cache as you browse, but you can set it to clear the cache - "Empty Temporary internet Files Folder when browser is closed" under Advanced. Setting your History (under Tools - Internet Options) to 0 days is probably as good as it gets, but I believe tweakui has a setting to clear the history and cache at Log-on time.

Just to clarify - setting your days to keep history to 0 will not clear the history until (I think) midnight of the current day.

<img src=/S/whisper.gif border=0 alt=whisper width=29 height=17> That should do if the wife doesn't get back until after midnight, shouldn't it?

Oops, you're correct. Better click "Clear History" in Tools | Internet Options...

Added by HansV: this reply is incorrect! See reply below (thanks, Leif)

In fact, if you set "Days to keep pages in history" to 0, your browsing history is cleared when you close the (last) browser window. but, as you noted earlier, history is still kept during a browsing session.

    <img src=/S/whisper.gif border=0 alt=whisper width=29 height=17> So it's a matter of making sure you close ALL browser windows when she comes home earlier than you expected. <img src=/S/evilgrin.gif border=0 alt=evilgrin width=15 height=15>

    Hans,
    -----------------------------
"Empty Temporary Internet Files folder when browser is closed" in the Advanced tab
    ---------------------------
Why am I not seeing this in the advanced tab?
I know I've seen this option somewhere, but I don't see it now at all? Am I not seeing the forest for the trees?

I wonder if it's because I had IE7B3 running on my machine for a while? I'm now back to IE 6.

Ah, Hans, you get three "atta boys" for that last post.

That added the missing option line to the Security section of Advanced.

    Thank you.
