The local newspaper had an article on a new piece of browser protection software called Green Border.
It a free DL for the first 10,000 visitors and claims protection in a unique way for IE users with a Firefox version coming out soon.

This is a sensible approach: using a virtual machine to conduct risky activities (whether opening attachments or visiting web sites) is like having a separate computer on hand that automatically rebuilds itself after every session.

However, people should not forget about phishing: if you go to a fraudulent web site and enter personal information directly into an online form, GreenBorder can't help you.

If anyone has tried the Outlook integration of the SafeFiles feature, I'd be curious to hear how well it interacts with Outlook and other common add-ins.

Looks like a really neat solution.

I am reluctant to install it myself until I hear of a number of people running long term stable environments, since this level of interception carries its own risks of reduced stability.

I've downloaded my free copy from download.com, who report 28,891 so far. Go figure. Just as an aside, well before the days of sandboxing becoming popular, a colleague had his own method for this. He ran 2000 under NTFS, but also had a separate 98 FAT32 partition for internet stuff. The latter, of course, couldn't even "see" the former, and if 98 became infected with something, he could simply blow it away and restore it from a clean image. A little fiddly, but not a bad solution for the time.

I agree completely with you. "Social engineering" or phishing is becoming a bigger threat as they are getting better at it. In addition, if you download a program to use, you will get to the point to decide if it is safe to run outside the "box".

According to this press release it is a one-year license that is free.

underneath the download button, otherwise I *think* it mentions only a 30 day trial. During the install, you are to send your email and enter your name so they have a way to send you the product key, which will allow you the 1 year trial.
Also I was able to find the "normal" price once, but I haven't been able to find it again.

I see what you mean. The link you posted does indeed say 30 day trial, but the downlaod page shows no limitations and the licence is <img src=/S/free.gif border=0 alt=free width=30 height=15>. All rather confusing. I haven't tried to install it yet so I'm unaware of what the install process will ask / require of me. Like Stuart, I prefer to be a late arrival rather than one of the first to find the problems. <img src=/S/innocent.gif border=0 alt=innocent width=20 height=20>

Here's a little twist... I just went to the page Bob linked to in his original post and went through the process to get to the download.com page and then clicked buy now and got a page asking for my email address to send me a free product key for 1 year. I clicked on the Buy Now link at the top of the page and that took me to this page. So it's a crap shoot as far as i can see. They both take you to the same page at download.com. Portions of this site are a great example of what I really dislike about online businesses/ordering/sales/etc......
