    Fields (Word 2003)

    I'd like to use a field for numbering in a document, but I want the separator to be a colon and I want the numbering to start at 15. How do I go about implementing this? Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

    You can use a numbered style and customize the numbering. You can specify a colon to follow the number in the Numbering box.
    Or you can use a SEQ field, field code could look like this:

    { SEQ Test # "0: " }

    Remember, you shouldn't type the field brackets yourself, press Ctrl+F9 to enter them.

    Hi Hans,

    I tried the field and it works fine, but when I copy and paste that field in my document it doesn't automatically advance in numbering. Am I doing something incorrectly?

    SEQ fields don't update automatically. Select all fields and press F9 to update, or (if you have set Word to update fields when printing), print preview the document.
