Windows Registry corrupt messgage (Windows xp)

    Hello,

Please please can someone help out. I have just installed Xp on a friends PC with all the spyware software:
ad-adware,spybot,firefox,spyware guard installed and running. The pc kept re-booting and then starting to run very slow indeed. i.e 5 mins to move the cursor!!

    I kept getting the error

"Message from microsoft to system on 10/07/06 Microsoft Windows has encountred an Internal Eror your Windows Registry is corrput we recommend running regfix.exe to fix it. "

Any help would be appreciated as the PC is so slow it is virtually unusable!

I have managed to run all of the spyware software but still problem persists?
I am a bit confused as to how this problem was caused?

    Did it ever run 'properly'?
Was the install a clean installation, or an upgrade?
    Did you try running regfix.exe?

Did it ever run 'properly'? Yes it did run properly
Was the install a clean installation, or an upgrade? I installed to a new directory as was reuluntant to format c:/ in case valubale files were lost.
Did you try running regfix.exe? I did not run regfix, as not to sure if it is spware or not . Is this program spyware free?

Re: Windows Registry corrupt message (Windows xp)

If it did run properly as some point, what changes did you make - hardware and/or software - before it started slowing down?

Did you upgrade, or just install XP as another operating system?
Did you set it up to dual boot?
What was the original operating system?
Is the hardware compatible with XP?
How much free space have you on drive c:?
    Are there any other drives?
What happens if you boot up in safe mode?
Have you checked what is starting up using msconfig?
Have you checked what may be running in the background with Taskmanager?

I can't help with regfix.exe - I've never come across it at all. Did you Google for it? I suggest your best option would be for you to backup the valuable files, and do a clean install onto a re-formatted drive. At the very least, try a re-install.
