Unable to get to BIOS (XP PRO)

Please help. I'm using a Dell Dimension and when I restart, the Windows XP splash screen doesn't appear so I can't F2 and get into setup. I want to reformat my hard drive and need to change the boot sequence. Any ideas?

I'm unsure how to interpret your question. Are you saying when you boot your computer nothing happens, the screen displays nothing and the computer sits idle? Is this why you need to reformat? If you have determined that a reformat is the only solution, to enter the BIOS on my Dimension I turn it on and as soon as the drive becomes active I press and release the <DELETE> key. I repeat this until the screen becomes active and it enters the BIOS from the initial boot screen. The boot sequence is easily changed from there. I would still suggest looking further into why you need to reformat though as it's usually a last resort.

You say it happens when you restart the computer. Does that mean that the computer is running and you are rebooting the system, or are you saying when you boot the system up from off ??? If the splash screen doesn't appear, what does happen ??

Also: it is not clear, WHY do you need to change boot sequence. If you want to reformat your hard drive, you have to boot from another device (usually from CD) just once, so it is much easier to press F12 during bootup (when Dell splash screen appears) - it brings boot menu.

Re: Unable to get to BIOS (XP PRO)

My computer has 4 users with 4 separate accounts. When I restart, I don't get an XP splash screen, the monitor goes blank, then all of the suddden the screen re-apperas again with all 4 accounts and bypasses the XP splash screen and consequently setup option. I have alot of stuff including a virus I want to remove, therefore a reformat is necessary, but I can't boot to a CD because I can't get to setup.
