Access DB opening as Read Only (2000 (9.0.6926 SP-3))

    Hi there!

I have passed on a DB to a couple of users who upon opening are getting a message telling them the DB is read only. Subsequently, they can't run a number of facilities which empty and append to tables etc.

I can't seem to find out why these users are suffering, when other users who I've tested this on have no problems.

    Can anyone guide me please?

    Cheers,

    Niven

    1) Has the .mdb file become read-only by accident? This happens for example if the file is stored on a CD or DVD, then copied back to hard disk.
    2) Do these users have full permissions (read/write/create/delete) in the folder where the .mdb file resides? Access doesn't work properly if it can't create a .ldb file.

Sometimes I have had people with this problem because they have not copied it from the CD to their computer. It is read-only while on the CD.

Sorry to come back so late on this, but been off sick.

Turns out it was a permissions problem on the folder in question, which was a bit weird when the network people wanted to know how I and several other lesser mortals within my department, were able to access the part of the network where I placed the DB.

Nothing actually surprises me here and i have placed the DB in a location where the users in question can access with no problems.

    Cheers for your time,

    Niven

    Many thanks your reply,

Turns out it was a permissions problem on the folder I copied it to.

    Cheers,

    Niven
