    Page # & headers (Word 2003)

    Hi,

I am attempting to format a doc, I have a header that is to be on 1st page only and wish to have a footer on all pages "Page 1 of #".

I've been able to open up the header/footer set up, but when I tick "diff 1st page" it affects both H & F so the footer with page numbering now only shows on page 1.
Have done a search of Forum, Office help, Woody's Office 2003 book but can't find any solutions to this (simple - IMO?) problem.

Can any of you guys point me in the right direction for a solution for this please?

    Thanks

'Different first page' is the correct setting for this.
Simply copy the contents of the footer for page 1 to the footer for subsequent pages. If your document doesn't have a page 2 yet, temporarily insert a page break, set up the footer, then delete the page break again. The footer setting will be preserved.

Thanks Hans, I was working on the view that a footer was common to all pages in doc.

    Your guidance is extremely appreciated.
