Doc opens, acts as if it's been modified (2002)

Some Word docs, when opened, are treated as if they've been modified. In other words, if I open one of these, and click Close without making any changes, I get the dialog box asking if I want to save changes. Do you know why some docs always open this way, and some don't? The same thing happens sometimes in Excel and WordPerfect.

In a Word document, it could be caused by fields being updated automatically, or by automatic repagination.

An Excel workbook that contains formulas that are updated when the workbook is opened, for example =TODAY() or =NOW(), will always prompt you to save changes, even if you didn't change anything yourself.

That makes sense for the Excel workbooks. They have macros in them that use Now or Today functions. I'll check out the Word and WordPerfect documents for some type of automatic changes.

    Thanks.
