To Wrap or Not To Wrap (03)

Is it possible to create a new line (Alt-Enter) within a cell without wrapping text or special formatting?

My example below depicts what I am after. Note the formula includes an Alt-Enter following the apostrophe in "all".

    Thanks,
    John

If you mean that you want to wrap using a formula, either put the line break (Alt+Enter) within the quotes, or concatenate with the line feed character CHAR(10):

="Now is the time"&CHAR(10)&"for all good men"

If that is not what you want, please explain.

    Hans,

Char(10) does not start a new line.

Ok, you MUST tick the Wrap text check box. If it is off, the cell value will be displayed on one line, and the line feed character will be displayed as a box. So in that sense, what you want is not possible.

It only works if the "Wrap text" check box has been turned on for that cell in the Alignment tab of Format | Cells...
