    Reformat a cell reference (Excel 2003)

    I have 68.86 in cell C3. I want to reference it from another sheet but make it $68,860

    So i want to make it C3*1000. I know you use FORMAT but can't quite put together the formula. Thank you for the help.

    There is no real need to put the format in the formula. You can set the formula to =C3*1000 and the number format of the cell containing the formula to a currency format using Format | Cells... The format will stick .
    If you really need to put the format in the formula, the result will be a text value that cannot be used in further calculations because it is not a number. The formula would be
    <code>
    =TEXT(C3*1000,"$#,##0")
    </code>
    or something similar.
