    Converting Feet and Inches (2000)

I am trying to figure the square footage of walls in my house so I can estimate paint and costs. I would like to enter feet and inches like they are normally written ( 6'10-1/2") = (six feet, ten and one half inches), but I can figure it out.

I tried using the spreadsheet posted in earlier threads, but I wasn't able to make it work. Can someone please look at the example I attached and give me some pointers.

    Thanks in advance.

Why make it more difficult by trying to parse text? It would be simpler to keep everything as numbers

Agreed - even if you represented it more visually accurately as 6' 10
