Folders not in Alpha order (2002)

When I go to Windows Explorer, My Documents, I see my folders in alpha order followed by my files in alpha order. Great. However, when I go to work in Word to either open or save docs, the folders do come first but are not in alpha order at all.

    How can I fix this?

    Thank you!

Activate the File | Open or File | Save As dialog.
Right-click on an empty part of the central pane (not on any file or folder).
Select Arrange Icons By | Name from the popup menu.
    Word should remember this preference.

Re: Folders not in Alpha order (2002)

Thanks for this tip, Hans. I much prefer to view the file list by the detailed view, which gives me the ability to quickly re-sort the list by date or name by clicking on the column title. (Plus, I'm a control freak and I want to see ALL the information available about my files <img src=/S/evilgrin.gif border=0 alt=evilgrin width=15 height=15>.)

While I have no official IT capacity here, I'm the person everyone comes to me first when they are having problems with Word. Since most of our users never change the default view from the list style, this tip will let me quickly resort when at someone else's computer without having to change the view style and then remember to change it back to where I found it before I leave.
