    Default 'My Documents' (XP Pro)

    Yo...

Finally...after 8 years w/ the company...my boss got me a new PC (Dell Optiplex GX520.) On my old machine...which ran Windows 2000 pro, I had established my default "My Documents" folder on our office server (so that it got backed up every night.) With the new machine...which is running XP Pro...I'd like to do the same thing (but...for the life of me...can't remember how.)

    Any help will be appreciated.

    Thanks,

    For a moment there, I thought you'd been using Windows 2000 since 1998... <img src=/S/grin.gif border=0 alt=grin width=15 height=15>

Right-click My Documents in Windows Explorer.
Select Properties... from the popup menu.
    Click the Move... button.

Alternatively, download and install TweakUI XP from Microsoft PowerToys for Windows XP. You can change the location of My Documents from the My Computer > Special Folders section.

    HansV...

    Thanks !!!

    Two more questions:
    1) After a series of lengthy XP security updates from the web...the new "My Documents" folder; & all of its sub-folders...now have a stupid shortcut arrow as part of the folder icon. These aren't shortcuts...these are the real deals...the actual locations. So...how do I get rid of the shortcut icons & go back to a normal looking folder icon?
    2) Where do I find the smoothing or anti-aliasing function for fonts/graphics? (The new machine came w/ an LCD monitor.)

    Thanks again,

    1) Try TweakUI XP - activate the Repair section, then select Rebuild Icons and click the Repair button.

    2) Activate the Display Properties control panel (for example by right-clicking an empty part of the desktop and selecting Properties from the popup menu).
    Activate the Layout tab.
    Click Effects...
Select ClearType from the "Use the following method to smooth edges of screen fonts" dropdown.
    Click OK.

If you want more control, download and install the ClearType Tuner power toy from the same site as TweakUI XP.

    HansV...

    Thanks.

When I rebooted, the shortcut icons were gone; & I found the "smooth edges of screen fonts" under Effects in Display Properties / Appearance. Thanks again.

    Update...Update...

Their back...the double blue arrows on the icons. How do I get rid of theses suckers? (Went into Synchronization Manager & unchecked everything I could find relative to this...but that doesn't seem to be working.)

    Thanks,

    Have you tried TweakUI XP?
