Network drive connection
I have a small peer to peer network of 4 workstations and 1 PC acting as a file server. All PCs run Win2000 OS.
I have configured 5 mapped network drives to the server for each workstation .
2 of the mapped drives randomly show being disconnected when an application requests data from one of these drives.
When I check the drive via WinExplorer, I see a red X under the the drive icon but when I attempt to explore the drive, I get immediate responses and I can even open the required file through WinExplorer.
When I refresh the image, there is still no change. The red X remains.
Can anyone shed some light on this?

This is the default behavior for networked drives under an NT based OS. See How Autodisconnect Works in Windows NT and Windows 2000 for an explanation and information on how to disable autodisconnect.
