Display Active Cell (Excel 2000 SP3)

Is there any way to obtain the current Active Cell?

What I'm looking to do is have a static text box that displays help text appropriate to whatever cell the cursor is residing in.. I'm kinda stuck since the only way I can see to do this depends upon the/a cells contents having been amended =CELL("address") works, but only AFTER the contents of a cell have been altered. I need to know where the cursor is BEFORE a user starts typing. Is it possible to do this with a named cell? i.e. Rather than trying to get the absolute cell address, does it help if I give the cells I'm interested in Defined Names? Non-VBA is preferred, but if it's the only way...

    Cheers

A simple method is to use Validation:
    - Select a cell or a range of cells that should have the same help text.
    - Select Data | Validation...
    - Leave the Settings tab as is... (i.e. allow All Values)
    - Activate the Input Message tab.
    - Enter an appropriate title and help text.
    - Click OK.

If you're not satisfied with this, you could write code for the Worksheet_SelectionChange event. Post back if you want this.

Hans... you're a star! It's different Help text for each cell, but Data Validation will do exactly what I require. Trust me to make something very simple complicated!

    Cheers
