    Outline/style/format problem (Word 2002 SP-2)

I want my heading style to underline the complete heading (ie, the outline number, the heading, and the space between), but the space between will not underline. Attached is an example of what it looks like. Note that the list of styles on the right is showing how I want it to appear, but in the document, there is no underline.

    Hoping you can help,
    Milly V

    Welcome to Woody's Lounge!

This is a bug (or feature, depending on your viewpoint) in recent versions of Word. I don't know of a really satisfactory solution.

It's the same in Word 2000, Word 2002 and Word 2003. I haven't seen Word 2007 beta yet.

    Milly,

There is a workaround for this, if you really need it.

Set up your number to be followed by nothing (rather than a tab), then insert a tab as part of the text of the heading.

It does mean you'll have to manually tab in each heading, but at least you'll get the effect you want...
