    Calendar Templates (MSO 2003-SR-1)

Is there a way to modify the template used in Outlook for setting appointments?

They are always set to "all day", and I'd like to un-do that so that the start/stop times are available automatically.

    Regards,
    Chuck Billow

What is your default view in Calendar and how do you create a new appointment?

    Hans:

You know, you just showed me something:

It only happens if I set an appointment by double-clicking on a date. If I use any of the File/New... options, it does not.

    ?

    You got it.
    - If you are in 7-day week view or month view, double clicking in a day results in an all-day event.
    - If you are in 1-day view or 5-day view, double clicking in a time results in an appointment for that time; duration is the time interval displayed in the calendar.
    - If you are in any of these views, double clicking a day header results in an all-day event.
    - Clicking the New Appointment button on the toolbar or selecting File | New | Appointment results in an appointment whose duration is the calendar time interval or the selected time range.

    Hans:

The one thing I wish I could change is the shortcut keys so that they were always consistent.

Yes, Ctrl-N always gives a new one of whatever module you are in at that moment. But it would be easier (for me) if you could have (Ctr-Shft-A for instance) to *always* give you a new appointment.

    Chuck

But it already does exactly that - see Microsoft Office Assistance: Keyboard shortcuts for Outlook.

    <table border=1><td>To create a new</td><td>Press this</td><td>Appointment</td><td>CTRL+SHIFT+A</td><td>Contact</td><td>CTRL+SHIFT+C</td><td>Distribution list</td><td>CTRL+SHIFT+L</td><td>Fax</td><td>CTRL+SHIFT+X</td><td>Folder</td><td>CTRL+SHIFT+E</td><td>Journal entry</td><td>CTRL+SHIFT+J</td><td>Meeting request</td><td>CTRL+SHIFT+Q</td><td>Message</td><td>CTRL+SHIFT+M</td><td>Note</td><td>CTRL+SHIFT+N</td><td>Office document.</td><td>CTRL+SHIFT+H</td><td>Post in this folder</td><td>CTRL+SHIFT+S</td><td>Search Folder</td><td>CTRL+SHIFT+P</td><td>Task</td><td>CTRL+SHIFT+K</td><td>Task request</td><td>CTRL+SHIFT+U</td></table>

CTRL+SHIFT+A doesn't work (for me) when I'm in the Calendar. My point.

Can't explain that. Works for me in Outlook 2002 and 2003.

Yep, same for me, but Ctrl+Shift+A still works, even though it is not displayed explicitly in the menu.
Similarly, when I am looking at mail (for example at my Inbox), the File | New submenu doesn't display the Ctrl+Shift+M shortcut for a new mail message, but pressing Ctrl+Shift+M still works.

    Hans:

That's funny, because the Ctrl+Shift+M does seem to work even in the mail window, but not the Ctrl+Shift+A in the Calendar, and I tried it on the month, week, work week and day views.

Pressing Ctrl+Shift+A does nothing anywhere else that I can readily see, so there doesn't seem to be a conflict.

    H-m-m-m

I would try again after a reboot, and before any other software has started, particularly any MS Office progs. Something else may have snaffled it - for example in (my) Firefox, it brings up the Adblock-able Items window, but it doesn't over-ride the new appointment function in my Outlook.
