    new free a/v software

Just found this: Novatix Cyberhawk. <img src=/S/free.gif border=0 alt=free width=30 height=15> for home use. Don't know much about it yet. I'm going to install later. From their FAQ:

"If I use Cyberhawk does that mean I can uninstall my antivirus protection?

Since no single application is currently foolproof, Novatix believes that a layered defense provides the most complete protection. Cyberhawk is the perfect complement to your existing antivirus, and will protect you between antivirus updates. It is fully compatible with traditional antivirus programs, and can run side-by-side with these programs without conflict. While the traditional programs will protect only against known threats included in their signatures, Cyberhawk goes beyond and protects against new or unknown zero-day threats as well. "

    FYI
I installed it and ran it for 2 weeks. It seemed to do a good job, although it does not give much information on what it blocked or why. In my case there were only two legitimate applications, Skype one of them, for which it ask what to do in much the same way as Zone Alarm does. But then I found out that interfered with pdfFactoryPro in a very obtrusive way. All of a sudden for nearly every page converted to pdf, I got a message that some *fa??.tmp file could not be deleted and I had to press OK before the conversion continued. Still, the concept seems allright.

I had one notification of a program (don't remember which one). I just uninstalled Cyberhawk yesterday in a general cleanup of my PC. I'm very careful about what I install, the sites I visit, and email I receive. So, in spite of generally agreeing that multiple layers of defense are good, this seems like overkill for me.

BTW, did you contact Novatix about your problems with pdfFactory Pro? If so, what was their reply?

I tend to agree about the overkill. Seeing your post, I mentioned the problem to Novatix. I'll let their answer know.
