Restore Outlook Folders (OE 6)

I compacted my large inbox and large sendbox. I lost all the emails between march 2006 and today. Though google desktop search can still find the messages. Strange.
I have a full hard disk back up from 4 days ago. Can I either restore the folders. ? how do I find the right ones and do i need to restore just dbx or other files? Or can I somehow fix the dbx so that OE finds the missing messages as Google destkotp does??

What did you use to make your back up?
Depends on how you did the back up or was it a file image instead of a back up?

Re: Restore Outlook Folders (OE 6)

I used backup my pc to backup all the files on my hard drive and system state. Can restore individual files and system state Should I just over writ the inbox.dbx and the sendbox.dbx is that all I have to do??
Also I have very large files. Is there a more robust but not Outlook Email program that every one uses for keeping large amounts of emails?
Thanks

Jerome,
There is a rather long but very informative article dealing with dbx files. Down near the bottom of the article it deals with restoring dbx files from a back up copy. It's worth reading in it's entirety.

Go to: DBXFILE CORRUPTION

Re: Restore Outlook Folders (OE 6)

Bob, I just read your post and since my sister's having problems with her OE, with the Deleted Items folder being grayed out. She says she needs to retreive an email in that box and can't. I understand that a lost email can be retreived by doing a Google search. Please tell how that is done, do you have to know the sender or the subject?

If it's not too much trouble, can you also advise me how to fix a deleted folder in OE 6?

I learn something new every time I visit the lounge, you people are gold mines of excellent information.

Re: Restore Outlook Folders (OE 6)

Gloria,
I'm not aware of any Google search being able to recover anything.

She might check OE>view>current view and see if " show all messages " is checked and not "hide read messages"

Beyond that, I don't know of a way to recover any messages that have been emptied out of the Deleted folder. ( unless a backup has been made ) Going back far enough, a System Restore might still have the messages available.

If you do a Search for the folder in question in the local folders or for just *.dbx , it will show the mail folders. If you see a deleted items.dbx, delete it and Windows will create a new folder for you.

Re: Restore Outlook Folders (OE 6)

I did a search on here for missing deleted items folder and I saw a post ( sorry I didn't make a note of where I found it) that said some lady had done a Google search and found what she was looking for in her missing folder).

I have passed your suggestion on. I thank you for refreshing my memory about deleting dbx folders. My deleted items folder contains 120,203 bytes, outbox folder containes 12,875 bytes and sent items folder contains 98,699 bytes of information.

Can I delete them one at a time or all together?

Re: Restore Outlook Folders (OE 6)

As long as you have access to the folder, you can either delete them one at a time or
go to OE>edit and click empty deleted items folder to get rid of them all in one shot.

Re: Restore Outlook Folders (OE 6)

Viking I read both your posts. I deleted all of the folders that were heavy one-by-one.

Your link Corrupt.DBX I had read previously, it was not the one where I saw the Use Google to find missing .dbx files. What I saw was in a forum, but not this one. I doubted that it was possible, but mentioned it anyway. I hope this is what you meant by "Maybe it was this one?"
