Satellite Ready?

I'm hoping someone can explain to me what the term, "Satellite Ready" means in reference to laptop computers. I see this term used constantly in ads and the descriptions of myriad laptops online but I have never really understood what it means. I had a client ask me this question today during a discussion about which laptop would fit his needs and I was at a loss to give him a knowledgeable answer.

    Re: Satellite Ready?

The term has not been encountered by me (at least) in the UK, except as a model name for Toshiba laptops (and previously spelled Satellit)...

Maybe it relates to an ability to recive satellite radio transmissions?

How 'bout an example link, Jeff. All I can find is the Toshiba laptop line which seems to define a model (or series of models) with that word.

Could be this, Broadband Global Area Network (BGAN), a new service that will bring seamless mobile voice and broadband Internet connectivity around the world.

Now running HP Pavilion a6528p, with Win7 64 Bit OS.

    BINGO DAVE ! ! !

According to what I have read in technical magazines, "Satellite Ready" computer will also be available to Grade schools (internationally Us, UK, etc) for educational broadcasting.

Major Cell phone providers in US (Verison, Cingular/ATT) are trying to integrate cell phone technology standards for computers (dial up online without a cell phone because the circuitry is already included in the computer).

Personally, I have a wait and see attitude. GREAT for schools if everyone gets on board. As for ISP via "Cell" on Laptop .....

The US is gradually expanding the WI-MAX network test sites that allow wireless access with ranges around 30 miles from source. The format is also trying to get international credidation and standardization (See WiMax Forum.

WI-MAX is supposed to bale to handle ALL Media outlets (internet, phone, video, music, etc) at broadband speeds. Interesting if this actually comes to pass.

The world may become much smaller
