    LaserJet 5L (Win XP)

    I have just purchased a new PC running WIn XP and have connected my HP LaserJet 5L printer which I used successfully on my previous Win98SE system. One problem , the inability to print correctly on A5 paper, can be overcome with a Page Setup workaround, although any suggestions would be welcome. The main problem is the absence of the Status Window. No error messages show, no progress indicators, and worst of all there is now no way to stop printing once it has started. How can I get the Status Window back? I have tried the HP web site and tried to download their suggested driver but it fails to install.

    Did you completely uninstall the printer and old driver first? Were you logged in as an administrator? Have you checked the HP support forum?

    Do you mean to uninstall the driver XP loaded before trying to download from the HP website? If so, I don't think it will work as the HP site will not see a printer connected. Yes, I have administrator priviliges. I can find nothing relating to this problem on the HP website.

    Thanks for the link. Unfortunately none of the drivers suggested will work.

    Well, about the only thing left would be to contact HP support. That may cost.
