Charting per date range (2003 Sp2)

Is there a way to compare Sales and Expenses per calendar year where there are eg 25 sales and 147 expenses? At present, the data is arranged in 4 columns: Sales Date, Sales Amount, Expense Date, Expense Amount, and the dates don't marry up. The chart seems to be displaying according to the number of records so that Expenses appear across X-axis and Sales appear only in the first portion, approx. 20% of the X-Axis. I could fiddle around and have one consolidated date column, a second column for Sales and a third column for expenses but I have several years of data to process so hopefully there is an easier way.

    Thanks

Create an XY (Scatter) chart from the Sales data, then use Chart | Add Data to add the Expenses data as a new series. See attached example.
