    Object Libraries (NT4 SP5/Access 97 SR2/Outllook 2000)

OK. I have written a small database app. for one of our clients, the main purpose of which is to import xls data from me, view records, change as necessary, and export via e-mail back to me.

    Works perfectly here <img src=/S/smile.gif border=0 alt=smile width=15 height=15>

My client is running NT4/Access 97/Outlook 98. When he opens it, no problem, but he gets an error, "can't run Date() function" when running my import code, which i know has something to do with the references. I e-mailed him MSOUTL8.OLB which is the library i have used from the start (18 months), and when he tries to make a reference, (after having de-referenced Outllook 98), he gets an error "can't add a reference to the specified file".

His Outllok file is VBA332.dll if it matters. How do i get round this problem????

    Hi Peter,
Have you tried getting your client to uncheck whatever reference is shown as MISSING: in the references list, presumably Outlook from what you've said, and then to set a reference to his existing Outlook object library, rather than trying to add a new library?
Alternatively you could probably change your code to declare variables as Objects rather than specific Outlook objects (e.g. Dim olApp as object rather than Dim olApp as Outlook.Application) and then use createobject to initialise them.
    Hope that helps.
    Regards,

The outlook libraries are version specific, so a 97 reference and a 98 reference will break on a machine with only the other version installed. I found that out the hard way a long time ago. You have to have the same version of Outlook *installed*, not just the library stuck on your machine somewhere, or you have to change the reference in the clients application either manually or through code.

There is a references wizard for Access 97 on<A target="_blank" HREF=http://www.mvps.org/access/modules/mdl0022.htm>The Access Web</A> site that you might take a look at.
