    Saving the Desktop (WinXP-sp2)

Where the heck do I remember seeing an option to save / restore the desktop arrangement?

Because it's restoring some arrangement that's just not right, and I want to disable it.

    Regards,
    Chuck Billow

I think you're referring to an add-in that dates back to NT 4. Your desktop layout (in 2000/XP) is saved after a successful logoff.

As usual, a quick search with Google yields a lot of results that could help.

    Mark:

No, I have a utility to do the save/restore... but I thought for sure I had seen a windows setting to save icon positions... 'cause I keep getting, as I had said, some totally freaky arrangement, so I (obviously) must have logged out with this facacta arrangement, because it keeps coming back...

I did (thank you) fix it by arranging and then logging out...but I'd love to know where the setting or adjustment for that is...

Your icon arrangement can also change if the screen resolution gets adjusted by a program improperly. Unfortunately, there is no way that I know of to force a save of the desktop layout without logging off - not without a utility, at least.

Perhaps the utility that you've installed is causing the arrangement to change.
