    System Restore

I use System Restore every day, today was the first time I decided to check the button - Setting.

To my surprise it didn't open, also the Help button and the question mark failed to work. The 3 restore options work perfectly. How long they've been in-operable, I have no idea.

I will try all suggestions, just please don't ask me to install SP2, it's not a panacea for everything wrong with Windows (I think).

What could be wrong and how can I fix it?

    Re: System Restore

I know full well that using it every day is not required, BUT the one day I didn't use it I installed a program that tore my computer up and I wished I had used it. Therefore instead of putting the cart before the horse, I put the cart after the horse.
Better safe than sorry is a good motto to have, don't you think? After all what does it hurt to use it every single day?

    Re: System Restore

You should not have to create a restore point daily. XP should do it for you. See Microsoft Windows XP System Restore (Windows XP Technical Articles) for a good description.

It may be supposed to but when I went to restore to an earlier date, the days I missed making one there were no dates to click on.

    From here.....
Microsoft will end technical support for Windows XP Service Pack 1 (SP1) and Service Pack 1a (SP1a) on October 10, 2006, nor will the company provide any more security updates.

You couldn't resist, you just had to say it didn't you? That's ok, I love you anyway. I promise to install SP2 this week (Lord, protect me and my poor computer). Amen!

    Re: System Restore

How can I prove that it's installed, since you obviously won't take just my word?

    Re: System Restore

I use System Restore each and every day, sometimes more than once a day. It depends on what I'm installing or removing. The first thing I do when I turn on my computer is to create a restore point.

I do that because on the one day I failed to use System Restore, I installed a program that messed up my computer and I had to pay a technician to help me format my hard drive and reinstall Windows. I would rather do anything that will prevent a format. Better safe than sorry is my new motto (except when it comes to installing SP2). To me that makes a whole lot of sense.
