Assuming I am answering the question you asked (I don't understand the acronym w/a)
Create your headers, right click the whole row (position cursor at LH side and right click), select Text Direction.

Thanks Silverback for your prompt response....but this did not solve the problem totally...."w/a" = "with a"....sorry for the shorthand....
Wwhat I need is for the cells to be at a 90 degree right angle.
Thanks again

If you are trying to slant the sides of the cells of the header row (example: /___/___/ ), I have not been able to do this in Word. However, this is easily done in Excel.

If you highlight the header row in the Table, then go to the View menu and click on Toolbars|Tables and Borders, you will get a small tool bar with an upper and lower row. On the lower row, click on the button about 7 buttons over and it will cycle you through various alignments. The Button has an A in the upper left corner(?) and a bunch of lines under it with arrow points at the ends of them. If you wish to move this around then the 4th button over on the same toolbar section will give you positioning capabilities.

Thanks much for the suggestion however I am not familiar with Excel. I can follow directions pretty well if you tell me how to align it in Excel.

Thanks for the tip....that procedure does not allow me to align the cell itself to a 90 degree angle....only move the text up, down or centered. I am still looking and hoping that the Excel suggestion will work....I appreciate your response

Kit, then I must confess to being a bit confused . I have an attachment which follows the directions I outlined in my original posting. Will you tell me if this is sort of what you are looking for .

Re: Create a Slanted Header Row in Tables (Word 2K)

Create the table in Excel (or paste it from Word).

Select the cells you want to modify.

Select Format/Cells on the menu bar. In the Format Cells box, select the Alignment tab. In the Orientation section, click on the position you want in the right-most window or specify the Degrees wanted in the bottom window.

Use the other tabs to set the way you want the cells to look.

I hope this helps.

Ron...thanks for the attachment.....the table is okay but the "header" meaning the cell with the words "Col 1, etc" needs to be on a 90 degree angle to the right

I am not sure what you mean by a 90 degree angle to the right, but is this what you are looking for? (Revised attachment)

Kit, to get the table from Excel into Word, do the following:

Highlight the cells in Excel that you want to copy. Select Edit/Copy.

In Word, place the Insertion Point where you want the table to go. Select Edit/Paste Special. Choose Paste As Microsoft Excel Worksheet Object.

The table should copy correctly.

You can edit the table while in Word by right-clicking on the table an selecting Worksheet Object/Edit.

Re: Create a Slanted Header Row in Tables (Word 2K)

Chuck.....I was able to get the "object" into word and it came the proper way however, the lines on the box are not slanted as the words are.....that is the final problem...
I have looked through excel and looked through word and can't find out how to do it....perhaps it can be done in PowerPoint.....but I thank you very much for your diligence and hopefully I'll be able to answer a question for you one day...... to you!!
