Ghost Dialog Box (2003/SP2)

Whenever I launch Word by double clicking a document icon, I receive the attached warning that a dialog box is open.

In attempting to cure the problem, in the following order I have:

Where any files existed in the following folders, removed them::
    1.
C:Program FilesMicrosoft OfficeOFFICE11STARTUP

Cocuments and SettingsdonApplication DataMicrosoftWordSTARTUP

Cocuments and SettingsDefault UserStart MenuProgramsStartup ( was already empty )

C:WINDOWSsystem32configsystemprofileStart MenuProgramsStartup ( was already empty )

Run "Detect and Repair errors in my Office installation" under Control Panel | Add or Remove Programs | Change

Run "Reinstall Office" under Control Panel | Add or Remove Programs | Change

Removed all items from my taskbar with the exception of the following items:
    1.
Norton AntiVirus Auto-Protect Enabled

Volume Control

Local Area Connection
[/list]The problem still exists after the taking the above steps, and closing all applications. As you might suspect, I'm at a loss. Any ideas will be most welcome.

Since you have Norton Anti-Virus, make sure that its Office plug-in is disabled. It is not necessary as long as you keep Auto-Protect enabled, and it causes all kinds of problems.
    - Start Norton Anti-Virus.
    - Click Options.
    - Click Miscellaneous.
    - Clear the check box "Enable Office plug-in".
    - Click OK.
Post back if this doesn't help.

What would I do without your continued guidance? You hit the nail on the head.
