No drop areas for pivot table (XP)

Has anyone else ever found that when you switch a query over into pivot table view, there are no drop areas. I did go to View | Drop Areas, but ALL the menu items are greyed out. Its as if the pivot table feature is disabled. I have seen this a couple of times in the past, and managed to solve it once....but for the life of me, I cannot remember how?

    Any advice?

    Tx

You should never need to switch a table or query to pivot table or pivot chart view, since end users shouldn't be able to open tables or queries directly.

Apart from that, we'd need to see the query to know what's happening.

    Hi Hans, <img src=/S/hello.gif border=0 alt=hello width=25 height=29>

If you take the Northwind DB and switch the Invoices query into Pivot Table View, there are no drop areas. Its as if you go to View and toggle the drop areas to off. The area becomes just white space. the problem on the PC is that the Menus are greyed out and I cannot enable drop areas???

I notice there is a post in 2003 about this, but your reply was to contact Microsoft. I have encountered this probled a couple of times, and recall fixing it (under correction), but its occured again and I cant remember how to activate the areas??

    Bit of a <img src=/S/moon.gif border=0 alt=moon width=15 height=15> <img src=/S/shrug.gif border=0 alt=shrug width=39 height=15>

I don't have this problem, but according to the newsgroups, it occurs frequently, without a clear solution.

I'd suggest not using the pivot table feature at all. I much prefer Excel for this. You can create a pivot table in Excel based directly on Access data (without importing them).
