Don't Want Extra Heading In File List (Word 97)

It seems like every time I turn around, Word adds Heading 4-9 to the list of styles for my documents even though I have never once used anything beyond 3. I know that I can create a new blank document and copy/paste the text to it to get rid of the extra styles (or at least stop them from showing) but how can I prevent them from cropping up in the first place?

    Ronnie,

Using the Organizer, open the template upon which the document(s) in question are based. Select the Styles Tab if not already selected. Select the styles you don't want and delete 'em. Close the template.

You are not allowed to delete built in styles.
