Inverting the screen

I have mistakenly hit a keyboard combination which inverts the monitor screen.. Any idea what this keyboard combination is? Thanks, Andy.

Re: Inverting the screen

This is dependent on the video adapter (card), but try Ctrl + Alt + Up Arrow (or Ctrl + Alt + Down Arrow).

The other way is to plough through right clicking on empty part of desktop -> Properties, and then you're on your own because it varies according to your hardware...

Re: Inverting the screen

The easy fix is to flip the monitor over.

Laptops are a bit more difficult. It's tough to type on a laptop when it's upside down.

Then you could just stand on your head and control the computer with a voice activated hardware/software

Re: Inverting the screen

I'm trying to think of when this would be a useful feature... there are LCD projectors that hang upside down from the ceiling, but then the projector normally handles the flipping of the image. Hmmm... maybe it's a joke? Or, more seriously, there were some old trojans (such as Sub7, if I recall correctly) that had tricks you could play on people by remote control, such as ejecting the CD drawer. You might do the usual scans to make sure you're clean.

What kind of video card do you have?

ATI cards have a display manager where you can rotate the display in all directions.
Right click Desktop, click properties>ATI Control Center.
NVidia cards had a similar set of adjustments.

Re: Inverting the screen

Some (flat screen) monitors can be rotated physically, i.e. you can switch between the standard landscape monitor and a portrait monitor. So it can be useful to be able to rotate the screen image 90 degrees, and once you have that, it's easy to throw in 180 degrees for the same price. Several video drivers offer keyboard shortcuts for rotating the image, fortunately they can be turned off.

Re: Inverting the screen

Thanks for all the advice. I found a setting in the monitor properties to correct it. Ctrl-Alt and Up/Down Arrow wasn't the keystroke. I was just curious what key combination someone pressed by mistake to cause this?! Andy.

Re: Inverting the screen

As John Gray mentioned, it depends on the video card/driver which keyboard shortcuts (if any) will rotate the screen image - they will usually be listed somewhere in the "Advanced" display properties.
