Forwarding emails OUTSIDE of Outlook (Outlook 2000/not known)

    <img src=/S/igiveup.gif border=0 alt=igiveup width=31 height=23>

    Hello everyone.

    We have just migrated to Outlook 2000 from GroupWise. Be that as it may, we cannot work out how to use Outlook rules to forward relevant emails received by Outlook to various LAN directories/folders totally divorced from Outlook, which we could do under GroupWise quite easily.

    Does anybody know if it is possible using Outlook 2000? I am optimistically assuming that (like most IT things) it is in fact possible and that we have looking in the wrong places so far.

    We would dearly love to know how!! <grovel, grovel>

    Thanks for the prompt reply MaryJ.

    I will investigate Exlife further. If it replaces the functionality we lost moving from GroupWise to Outlook then we only face the purchasing battle :-(

    There may end up being a P/T job manually shuffling our emails around for the next <unspecified> months. Who said technology changes only ever COST jobs?

    I'm not 100% clear on what you need to do. You want to save incoming messages that meet certain criteria as text files in the file system?

    This functionality is way beyond the Rules Wizard, but could be coded in Visual Basic for Applications using its ability to respond to events. You would have a lot of flexibility in how you did that. For example, you could read from a centralized database mapping specified conditions to specified folders that could be shared by everyone (simplifying the maintenance considerably). However, the development and debugging would be a bit arduous, and distribution would be a bit of a pain. Still, might be worth exploring if you really need this.

    If I am completely confused about what you are trying to accomplish, then never mind.

    You described what we need to do quite well, actually. Better than I originally did <img src=/S/bow.gif border=0 alt=bow width=15 height=15>

    You're right - the functionality IS way beyond the rules wizard (though quite easy to do in the 'antiquated' product it replaced) so we are going down the VBA path you described.

    I followed up the product from Ornic that Mary mentioned, but because it is not from some major player in the software league the people that actually have power of life and death over our machines are not interested. <img src=/S/sad.gif border=0 alt=sad width=15 height=15>

    i feel sorry for you

    Ludek is one of the premier OL developers, well repsected in the developer community. Many of the best innovations come from "minor players" in the software market. Any company that relies solely on the microsofts and symantecs of the world is going to lose in the end.
