Arrows appearing instead of borders in tables (2003)

I have an intermittent problem when creating tables in PowerPoint 2003. If you look at the vertical inside border in the attached table, you'll see it shows up as an arrow instead of a normal border. If you remove the borders and DRAW them back in, the arrow will disappear. Has anyone else experienced this problem?

See PPT2000: New Tables Contain Arrow Formatting for All Lines. I assume it applies to PowerPoint 2003 too.

I even checked this out in the Knowledge Base, but looked up PowerPoint 2003! Should have known better! Thanks as always for your help.
