Internet Problem

Hello, I have a problem. There are times when I can't pull up the internet. I checked my communication with the modem(DSL) and get no errors -I ping the gateway. Then after a while, sometimes immediately, I can get on. Any ideas as to what may be happening here?

Can we get a little more information please? Is there an error displayed? What is it? Does this happen when you cold start the system only?

I don't get an error. I just get the page that says I cannot connect. It happens on both cold start and when the internet is idle for a while

Re: Internet Problem

It sounds like you have a problem with dynamic IP addresses which your ISP would have to solve for you. If you have a router or switch, it might be a parameter in the router or switch that is incompatible with what your ISP requires.

Is the firewall on the bellsouth provided DSL Modem, or on bellsouth servers ?

If it is on the DSL Modem, you can check the settings. Also check the DSL Modem settings to see when the DHCP IP is being refreshed.

You should have received some documentation for the DSL Modem. The settings are usually accessed by using an "http:/XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX" address via browser, where XXXX is one to four numbers. I do not have a reference for your type of DSL Modem for the actual IP # to put in to access the configuration menu.

Re: Internet Problem

Something new, after this problem occurred again I got the following in the lower left hand area of the screen:
res://C:Windowssystem32shdock.dll/dnserror.htm
After a while I get 'Done' in the lower right, with a whire screen in the background. When I hit refresh or close and retry IE - I get the regular screen, when it can't connect. I try a couple more times and here I am back on,

Re: Internet Problem

I did a Google search and came accross the following Link. The solution for this user was to turn off the DSL Modem Firewall. The problem I have with this is that you can access any website EXCEPT http://www.adobe.com - Correct ?

(General Google Search is Here)

I'm thinking you need to re-check the DSL Modem Firewall settings to ensure you have not inadvertently blocked the adobe website.

The only other thought I have is to request your ISP about the problem to ensure THEY are not blocking the website. I showed your post to a friend and he reminded me some ISP's offer protection against kids accessing websites they are not supposed to be going to. If you ISP offers this and active, it could be an application on the machine or online through your online profile.

Sorry I can not be more help
