Try fix # 235, left hand side on Kelly Theriot's Troubleshooting Windows XP, Tweaks and Fixes for Windows XP.

Hi again, I tried what you suggested, but I got an error message saying 'Windows can't find helpctr.exe' and suggesting I do a search for it - I found 2 helpctr.exe - but what do you do now?.

I don't know if this the same thing Hans pointed you to but you can try this small vbs file at:

    HELP

    OR

    Missing helpctr.exe

Long ago, there was a time when men cursed and beat on the ground with sticks. It was called witchcraft.
    Today it is called golf!

Tried the vbs file - said there was 4 entries incorrect in my registry and fixed them - but I'm still getting
error message 'can't find helpctr.exe' when I click on Help and Support

    Select Start | Run...
    Type sfc /scannow
    Press Enter or click OK
You may have to insert your Windows CD-ROM.

Re: Help and Support (Windows XP SP2)

After I left the last message last night, - I tried the other file (missing helpcts.exe and it appeared to work, Help and Support appeared but with a message saying 'page not available' because of 1.network congestion 2. error in pages address.3. page not available.- I think it may be 2, the readme in the helpcts file states that the address can be changed manually in notepad, but Im not clever enough to know how to do it - incidently Hans I tried the scannow but a nothing seemed to happen.

Re: Help and Support (Windows XP SP2)

Sorry I made a mistake with the last message- it was the STARTMENUHELP file suggested by Viking that I was talking about and not the missing helpcts.exe.
