    Forward Thread to Friend

    Hi Everybody,

I'm still unable to see the little yellow box descriptions when hovering over icons, but I did click on the "forward to friend" icon. It seems to forward just the one post. I would like to forward the entire thread with all the messages it holds so my friend gets the entire explanation. Is this possible?

    Thanks,
    Kris

    Re: Forward Thread to Friend

The "Send2Friend" button works only for individual posts, not for an entire thread.
Yoou could click the <IMG SRC=http://www.wopr.com/w3timages/printthread.gif> button in the thread header and then select File | Save As... to save the thread as a .htm file. You can send this .htm file to someone else. Attachments will not be included, though, and unless you also send the folder with images automatically created alongside the .htm file, all pictures (such as smileys and userpics) will be missing.

    Re: Forward Thread to Friend

Unless you need the attachments, printing to PDF is a good workaround. If you use the "Save/Print Thread" button referenced in Hans' post, you get a very clean layout that should create a lighter-weight PDF than if you print from one of the more graphics-rich skins.

If you don't have a print-to-PDF driver, there are suggestions on the Software board.

Finally, do you get tooltips on other sites? If not, perhaps you have customized IE in some manner to suppress them?

Is there a reason you need to include the post in your email, rather than a url that would allow your friend to read the entire thread?

Can't you just copy the URL from the address bar and send it...

    http://www.wopr.com/cgi-bin/w3t/showflat.p...sb=5&o=0&fpart=

I know it looks a bit cumbersome but that is how it will look if you had an automated button clicky thing

If you use Firefox, be sure to have the latest version and then add this extension - Popup ALT Attribute to help you see the little text descriptions. Hope this help! <img src=/S/smile.gif border=0 alt=smile width=15 height=15>

    Re: Forward Thread to Friend

Thanks for all the help. I'm trying Hans' file/save as, which gives a great result. I'll see if it arrives and my friend can read it.

I've tried several times to locate where something may be checked or unchecked in IE which causes my tool tips to disappear. I'm looking in Tools/Internet Options on the Advanced tab. If something there affects tool tips, I can't tell because it doesn't SAY tool tips. I can see tool tips on the IE toolbars (for "stop", "home", "print" etc.), and on the XP Start toolbar Quicklaunch and tray icons. I've searched around on other sites, hovering over things that look like they might have a tool tip, but nothing shows up. I've checked Help and Support, but there is no response to a search for "tool tips". I've got a couple of Woody's XP books, but "tool tips" is not in either index. Because of visual issues, my screen resolution is 800 x 600. It's just been a long-standing nuisance that I don't know how to solve. If anyone has any clues, I'd be glad to try them!

    Thanks!
    Kris

    <img src=/S/hello.gif border=0 alt=hello width=25 height=29> Kris,

I see your <post:=541,165>post 541,165</post:> in the Internet Explorer Forum. I take it you never were able to get this solved? Maybe someone will come up with an idea for you now that you are addressing the problem again. Why not reopen that thread with a new plea for help since it is concerning your Alt Text issue? <img src=/S/smile.gif border=0 alt=smile width=15 height=15> I sure hope an answer "pops up" because that is part of the fun of the Lounge - reading the little tags! <img src=/S/yep.gif border=0 alt=yep width=15 height=15>

    Hi Kris

    I see Sandy is on the case for you <img src=/S/grin.gif border=0 alt=grin width=15 height=15>

There is a fix to this. Sometimes when there are updates from MS it mucks up the registry, there is a setting that can be changed, like so:

    1) Click Start | Run
    2) Type in Regedit
    3) Find Registry Key: HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVe rsionExplorerAdvanced
    4) Data Type: REG_DWORD [Dword Value] , Value Name: ShowInfoTip
    5) Modify/Create the Value Name [ShowInfoTip] according to the Value Data listed below.

    Value Data:
    0 - ShowInfoTip Disabled
    1 - ShowInfoTip Enabled

    6) Exit Registry and Reboot

Eeeeyowwww, the REGISTRY! I've always been scared of that! But I followed your easy instructions and see that it is already indicating (1) enabled. Bummer. Now what.

    Re: Forward Thread to Friend

You could try changing it to '0', then returning the entry to '1' immediately following.

I know it sounds like you're doing nothing, but from time to time, this has worked miracles for me in other PC related problems.

Should I reboot between the "0" and the "1"?

    Re: Forward Thread to Friend

I wouldn't reboot, but exiting, and re-entering the registry would be a good idea.
