492 MB? Are you sure it's not 512 MB? Anyway, the standard recommendation is to set the paging file to 1.5 times the size of your RAM. See How to configure paging files for optimization and recovery in Windows XP.

Remeber that the size of the page file is highly dependent on how you use the PC. Virtual Memory in Windows XP is a very good discussion of the subject.

Let Windows Control the size and don't worry about. It has been proved many times that the Windows Control will do much better job, than any one could do manually.

Now running HP Pavilion a6528p, with Win7 64 Bit OS.

    Re: Page file Help

    Hans,
I read the article you mentioned. On my PC with Windows XP NL SP2 and 1024 Mb RAM, I've moved the paging file to a dedicated partition (D). This partition is 4Gb and the paging file size is set to 1.5 Gb. According to the article it's best to have another paging file on the parttion with the OS. But it doesn't state what the size of that file should be. Also 1.5 Gb or can it be smaller?

I don't know - this is not my area. I'm sure a more knowledgeable Lounger will be able to tell you.

    Thanks Joe.
I read the article and it states: [i]"If you do put the file elsewhere, you should leave a small amount on C:
