    Draw Spiral (XP)

Having one of my mad moments again.

A good time ago I asked about plotting spirals. I am currently trying to do the same again but this time I want the a way to vary the growth factor of a spiral. Spira Solaris has a series of spirals I wish to reproduce in a chart excel. How can I produce a spiral and have a variable in a cell which will change the growth factor. I will be using phi (1.618) as my variable. The site has it to certain powers that I will want to reproduce. <img src=/S/cheers.gif border=0 alt=cheers width=30 height=16>

PS I am not looking to put radials on just the curve.

You can create an XY chart. See the attached workbook (zipped). Vary the shaded cell to see the spiral change.

Note: to keep file size down, I used only a (relatively) limited number of data points. You can easily extend the range downwards.

    Thanks Hans

I was using another spiral model and it was the growth rate bit I was <img src=/S/dizzy.gif border=0 alt=dizzy width=15 height=15> about. So basically it is the projected growth rate to the power of the radians. Great one for the tool box..thank you

    Sorry back again

Many moons ago I posted a request for a method that would adjust the width and height of a chart so that they were the same. If I remember rightly it was either Hans or Steve who created a bit of VB... I have searched the Lounge but cannot find the example any ideas?

    Re: Draw Spiral (XP)

Thanks maddening, I was searching for chart not graph.

I have just found some code which seemed to to the job and then I found it required the grids and max values to be present on the chart to actually work. I didn't want this as I wanted to convert the charts into a graphic for something I am doing on my website. The simplest way of getting around this was to record a little macro that formatted the chart with the grids and numbers do the resizing and then take the grids and lines off.

I have assigned this macro to a spinner in your original wb and I have the chart changing when a value is changed. I have added the code here in case anyone is interested.
