That %*@# paperclip (2003)

I don't like the "office assistant" - I think I am not alone in this.

If I click Explain when a grammar rule triggers the wretched paperclip appears along with the explanation of the grammar rule. The Help says you can turn this off by first clicking Show Office Assistant on the help menu and then right clicking the horrid thing, choosing Options, then uncheck the box to use it for wizards.

So I do all that, right click the green wavy line on another grammar point, choose Explain and the vile beast appears again!

(Did I mention that I'd prefer not to see it?)

Am I doing something wrong, or is the only thing to do to uninstall the Office Assistant as an Office feature?

Ian

PS - how can a simple paperclip arouse such extreme hatred in a normally pacifistic user?

Have you cleared ALL check boxes in the Options tab, including "Use the Office Assistant"? I don't like Clippy either, but I haven't seen him for several years now.

Yes, and restarted Word, but when I choose Explain in a grammar rule, back it comes again.

Oops, you're correct - which goes to show that I never ask for explanation of grammar rules
I guess uninstalling the Office Assistant feature is the only way. I haven't tested it, so I don't know if what happens if you click Explain then.
