    High-Low-Close Chart (Access 2000)

So I've done some graphing in Access before, and after considerable kicking and screaming, I can usually get Access to do what I want with my data.

What I cannot get Access to do is give me a High-Low-Close chart of my data (which is useful when you want to graph a data point and its error range).

Does anyone have any idea how to make this work?

(My quick fix has been to select my three data series and graph them as such, changing the Close series to a dot and the High and Low series to bars, which looks ugly because there is no 'error bar' behind the data but, but it gets the point across)

Create any kind of chart based on your data, then switch to design view, double click the chart to edit it, and select Chart | Chart Type. Then select High-Low-Close from the list of chart types, and select the first subtype.

    Hans,

I've tried numerous times, but Access will not allow me to use this type of chart (the h-l-c chart option is not an option in the sense that the wizard will not allow me to use it)

The Chart Wizard doesn't have High-Low-Close as an option, so you'll have to start by creating another kind of chart, for example a bar chart or a line chart.
When you're done, view the form with the chart (which isn't what you want), then switch to design view.
Double click the chart to edit it.
The regular Access menu bar will be replaced with the Chart menu bar (temporarily).
    Select Chart | Chart Type.
You should now be able to select High-Low-Close.

    Re: High-Low-Close Chart (Access 2000)

Oh how many times I have tried...

I noramlly choose an XY scatter plot and then modify the source to something like: Select Axis, High, Low, Close From GraphQuery.

After that, I try to change the chart type to H-L-C and it will not allow me to choose that type!!!

(and I've tried all apparent permutations- no axis field, extra axis fields, axis field after the three data sets, etc... Nothing)

If anyone has a working example, I'd love to see what I'm doing wrong...

Here is a demo. The chart started out as a bar chart. I changed the chart type the way I described, and set its record source to the table instead of to the SQL statement generated by the wizard.

    It looks so easy!

I'll give it a shot when I get back to work on Monday.

Thanks so much for your help.
