Mail Merge - Keeping Leading Spaces (word 2003)

Can anyone tell me if there is an option to keep leading space in a field when doing a mail merge from MS/Access.
The query I'm running does give the field data with leading spaces but when placed into my Word document the leading spaces are stripped off.

Outside of me placing a control string in the start of the field and then running a macro to strip that character string is there an option for me to tell Word to not Trim the field?

    TIA
    Don

This is by design. When you perform a mail merge with a non-Word data source, field values are trimmed. Apart from the method you propose, the only other way would be to copy the query to a table in Word or to export it to an .rtf file, and use this as data source with the Word or RTF driver. To make sure you can select the Word or RTF driver, you must tick the check box "Confirm conversion at open" in the General tab of Tools | Options... before selecting the data source for the mail merge.

    Thanks Hans,

I thought that might be the answer.

I think I'll set up a string in the beginning and use a macro to parse the data. I'm already doing that for to force HTML coding for underlining and bolding.
