When I tried this with Copy and Paste, I lost the table structure.

    These worked:
    * Save the word file, then use Insert Object..Create from File
    * Copy, then Paste Special.. Word Document Object
    Regards
    John

You can also do this (Word 2003): In word - Table | Select | Table. Then open PowerPoint and use a blank slide layout and just drag your table from Word to PowerPoint and you will not lose anything. Your table will be there and you can add and delete text as you like.

Once I changed the Layout of the new slide to a blank layout, cut and past worked for me , but nothing happened when I tried drag and drop.
Has anything got to be turned on to allow drag and drop between applications?
    Regards
    John

There seems to be something wrong with your installation. After selecting the entire table in Word, both a simple Copy in Word and Paste in PowerPoint and drag-and-drop work for me - the result is a table in PowerPoint that preserves the formatting from Word.

Can you drag-and-drop selected text from Word to PowerPoint, or to Excel for that matter?

    I worked this out.

There are two ways to drag and drop tables, and I was using the wrong method.

Normal drag and drop does drag the table into a Powerpoint slide.

You can also drag tables within the current document as shown below. This method does not let you drag into other documents or other applications.
