    Trace Outline

Is there an easy way to trace the outline of this house in the picture without having to do it by hand? We want to highlight what is actually included as part of the house.

    Hi Luke

Difficult one to answer as I am not sure what application you are using.

The difficulty you will have doing it automatically is that most "magic wand" tools use tolerance or the basic variance in surrounding pixel saturation/hue/RGB value. Something as complex as your image is difficult. I used a lassoo tool to quickly click around the edges and inverted the selection and chaged the selection to Alpha...I use Macromedia Fireworks but IrfanView should do something similar with its tool box

    Here is my example...takes seconds

    Thanks for the quick response.

We are using Paint Shop Pro V7, so looks like it will have to be by hand as the property actually extrends allt he way right to the black drain pipe, which again from your previous notes makes it even harder!
    Best Regards,

    Luke

Yep, looks like you will have to do it by hand, Paint Shop Pro is robust enough for that...sorry

    Hi Luke

Is this what you're looking for?
I used the 'Art Media - Black Pencil' effect in PaintShop Pro X.

Does PSP have something like Photoshop's "magnetic lasso"?

Here's a quick and dirty rendition done in PSP 7. A little magic wand, a little selection & freehand tool work at high zoom, a crop and paste section of chimney and crop off the excess and Voila. Took about 5 minutes.
