    Saving Calendars (Outlook 2003)

After entering all the appointments and travel that my husband and I do, I hoped to use this as a history of our year. How do you save the calendars. After 6 mos they disappear, even if I've saved them under a special name. Where should I look for the info on how to save my calendars.

    Thank you for your help.

if calendar entries automatically disappear after 6 months, you probably have AutoArchive turned on.
    Select Tools | Options...
    Activate the Other tab.
    Click AutoArchive...
You can see the location of your archive file (probably named Archive.pst) here. The default location is

    Cocuments and Settings<username>Local SettingsApplication DataMicrosoftOutlookarchive.pst

You must show hidden files and folders in Windows Explorer to see it. This file should contain your old appointments. You can open it in Outlook using File | Open Outlook Data File.

thank you - yes, archive checked. Got into pst and there is nothing in the file.

    Further thoughts?

    Thanks again.

Also check the properties for your calendar - is AutoArchive turned on there?

    Re: Saving Calendars (Outlook 2003)

Well....I just found the archived calendar labeled "calendar in archived folders". Under properties - "do not archive this folder" is checked. BUT under tools it says to archive. I guess this is a mess. Is there an article I could pull to become better informed about how I should be dealing with this? I thought I had saved sections of months under clearly labeled file names, but there is nothing in them now.

    Thanks for all your help...again.

If "Do not archive this folder" is checked, I don't understand why appointments would disappear after six months. You can do a search for .pst files on your hard disk to see if there are other backup files. If you can't find any, I fear your old appointments are lost, unless you have disk backups.

For some general info, see Outlook Email Archiving Tips and Tricks and Description of the AutoArchive feature in Outlook 2003.
