    Restoring xp booting (xp sp2)

My friend's young teenage son decided that he wanted to put 98 onto his xp laptop so he could play old games. (Obviously no idea about compatability mode) He simply dropped in the 98 install disk and started it. it went as far as saying that the existing data on the disk was not compatable (NTFS) and it would disable it. It then created a drive D and began to install. For some reason he decided to stop the install part way through and now the system only sees a drive D and reports a disk error (of course). (all above information is as related by my friend, I haven't actually seen the laptop yet)

Is the xp system redeemable or will it need a complete format?

Aarrgggg!! Children who think they know what they are doing!!!

    Allan,

I really am not sure this will work but ...

Put the XP Install disk in the computer and boot. It should recognize the "C" formated NTFS disk and try to "Repair" the original XP install.
