conditional formatting (2003/SP2)

How do you apply conditional formatting? What I want to do is to change the color of the text in certain cells based on the value in a single cell, for example:

If the value in cell A1 is 'A' make the text in cells A1 - A8 red.

TIA,
gg

Re: conditional formatting (2003/SP2)

1- Select cells A1 thru A8.
2- Select Conditional Formatting from the Format menu.
3- Click on the drop down list and select "Formula is".
4- Enter the formula below in the formula box:

=$A$1="A"

5- Click on the Format button and select the formatting that you want when that condition is true.
6- Click OK to close all dialog boxes.
