transfer numbers to excel (2000)

I have a word doc that was typed 12-10-13 when I bring it into excel not all numbers transfer over the same way. Some of them come in like 12/10/13 I tried text to column to split the numbers but it did not work. I sent a excel example.

Re: transfer numbers to excel (2000)

    Hi there

Quick and dirty fix is to put a single inverted comma in the cell and paste the numbers in immediately to the right of it. Excel is seeing some of these numbers and assuming that it is a date and converting

Alternatively get around the problem with text manipulation using this formula ( assume problem value is in cell A1):

    =LEFT(A1,2) & "-" & MID(A1,4,2) & "-" &RIGHT(A1,2)

You can't use "Text to columns" on non text values. 12/10/13 is interpreted by Excel to be a date which is a numeric value. Try a formula like this:

    =IF(ISNUMBER(A13),TEXT(A13,"mm-dd-yy"),A13)
